Ethel Birchfield Cook, age 95, formerly of Iaeger, passed away August 12, 2012 at her Johnson City Tennessee home. Born December 21, 1916, in Buchanan County VA.,  she was a daughter of the late Mose and Lucinda Lambert Birchfield  of the Mohawk area.
   
She was a member of the Iaeger First Baptist Church, having been baptized there April 23, 1950, until her decline in health, loved being an active there as a Sunday School teacher, women’s Bible- Study leader,  and served a great number of years as the church pianist. At home she filled her days joyfully sewing, crocheting, quilting and crafting, and was well known for her beautiful flower gardens.
   
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe in 1960, an infant son Joe Jr., a grandson Carl “Lynn” Cook Jr., a daughter in-law Sandi, and five brothers, Jess, Arthur, Frank, Everette, And Donald.
 
Left to cherish the memory are her sister, Edna McCoy, of Beckley, sons; Buster and his wife Romaine of Laurel M.D., Jack and his wife Cora May of Caswell Beach NC. Carl and his fiancée Cathy Lockhart of Spanishburg, WV. And one daughter Bonnie and her husband Don Peters of Piney Flats, TN. also surviving are seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. One son Robert (Bob) has been unaccounted for since 1972, during the Vietnam Era.
 
In Keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitations. A graveside service will be conducted at the Iaeger Memorial Cemetery, Tuesday August 14th at 11 A.M., with Reverend Don Morgan officiating. Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is serving the Cook Family. Those wishing to attend the service are invited to meet in the Fanning Funeral Home Parking Lot by 10 A.M. to proceed to the cemetery.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.fanningfuneralhomes.com
