Feb. 16, 1937 - Jul. 20, 2012

Elmer Spence, age 75, of English, West Virginia, formerly of Bartley, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012, at Welch Community Hospital, following a long illness. Born February 16, 1937, in Bartley, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Johnnie and Clara Hagerman Spence.
 
He was formerly employed with the Anderson Company as a drill operator in strip mining and various other jobs. Elmer accepted the Lord, July 5, 2012 and he was of the protestant faith.
 
Preceded in death by in addition to his parents; was his brother-in-law, Jerry Callebs, also of English.
 
Survivors include his sisters, Mayme Collins and husband Dillard and Lois Collins all both of Wytheville, VA, and Elsie Callebs of English; nieces, Debra Lake and husband Sam of Beckley and Tammy Collins of Princeton; nephews, Randy Collins and wife Gail of Johnson City, TN, Dennis Collins and wife Mary of Bluefield, VA, Steve Collins and wife Nancy of Marshall, VA, Dale Collins of English and Dwayne Collins and wife Bonnie of Lexington, NC; many great nieces and nephews; and his cat Snowball.
 
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 22, 2012 at 1 P.M. from the Fanning Funeral Home Chapel in War with Reverend Charlie Barker and Reverend Robert Hudler, officiating.  Burial will follow at Deskins Cemetery, Atwell, WV.
 
Friends may call Sunday at the funeral home, from 12 Noon to 1 P.M.
 
Pallbearers will be nephews and family.   
 
Fanning Funeral Home of War is serving the Spence family.
