Reverend Donald Gene Johnson
Reverend Donald Gene Johnson, 65, of Atwell Branch Road, passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2012 in the Veterans' Hospital in Beckley, WV.
Donald was born August 8, 1946, in Jolo, WV, a son of the late Frank and Virgie Sweeney Johnson.  He was a retired coal miner, a veteran, and a minister for over thirty years.  He was a member of the Atwell Mountain United Church of God. 
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Hutchinson, and two brothers, J. C. Johnson and Robert Kindoll Johnson.
Survivors include one son, Frank Edward Johnson and wife Alisha of Bartley, WV; one grandson, Brandon Johnson also of Bartley, WV; three sisters, Ethel Lawson of Mt. Airy, NC, Mary Golden and husband Jack of Bartley, WV, and Sandra Pruitt and husband Arnold of Mt. Holly, NC; and two brothers Willie Kindoll Johnson of Kingsville, OH and Frank Johnson, Jr. of South Mont, NC.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11 o'clock with Reverend Roger Hale, Sr. and Reverend Roger Hale, Jr. officiating at the Atwell Mountain United Church of God on Atwell Mountain.  Burial will follow in the Deskins Cemetery on Atwell Mountain near Atwell, WV.  Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #175 and the VFW Post #1144.  Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may visit with the family at the Atwell Mountain United Church of God Thursday evening, April 12, 2012,after 6 p.m.

    Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger is assisting the Johnson Family.

    Frank, im so sorry for your loss. Uncle Don was a good man and he was always good to us. I love you cousin. I know we hav'nt seen each other in awhile but your my family and I love you. You are in my thoughts and prayers always. Love Jocelyn. RIP Uncle Don.

    Frank,,I just wanted to tell you I love you very much, and I am so sorry for your loss, Uncle Don was a very good & spacial man whom I loved dearly,,he was like a Daddy to me and I will never forget him,,My God keep you in His arms of Comfort,,I will Cherish all the time I have spent with him.

    Frank, I don't know what to say. We have been through so much together, you and I. Loved the times I spent at yall's house and Celia would make egg rool for us. Remember one time she ran out of filling and used strawberry preserves. I remember when Don and Celia first started going to church with me at Threeforks Church of the Living God. We will see them again someday.

    Frank...was so sorry to hear about Don.Hadn't gotten to see him in years but loved him as a brother. Wish I could be there but can't get off. Please know that we love you and will be praying for all of you.At least you know he is out of pain and with your mom. We love you.
